Dr. Schwartz:   As summer is almost here and greater activity and lighter clothes are the rule, the question of bruising has come up several times in the office.

The black and blue marks you see are from blood vessels that were injured in falls, hits (sometimes in frustration banging your head against the wall).  

Here are some suggestions to minimize bruising:

  • To assist in healing, take 150-450 mgs a day of Bromelain.
  • To prevent, citrus fruits that contain Vitamin C and bioflavinoids strengthen capillary walls and therefore make bruising less prominent.
