Dr. Schwartz:  A quick review of the literature shows that SAMe (sammy) appears comparable to state-of-the-art treatments for arthritis and depression.  Unlike traditional drug therapies, it lacks significant side effects.  It has been found to be effective with fibromyalgia.

SAMe's success as an antidepressant has been documented in dozens of studies and was approved for use in the United States in 1999.

SAMe is safe to use.  The usual dosage is 200mg/daily, but higher dosages may be used safely, according to research.

In general, the longer it is used, the better the results.  Individuals who suffer from bi-polar disorder, however, should use SAMe under the supervision of a competent health professional.
